Dining Rooms

Tre

BY Andy LeePublished Jul 1, 2003

As their moniker suggests, the Dining Rooms create music well suited as aural wallpaper for cafes, parlours, and lounges of repute. Tre is the third attempt by Italian producers Stefano Ghittoni and Cesare Malfatti at penetrating the coffee house, er, electronic market. Enlisting the aid of Tosca chanteuse Anna Clementi and others, Ghittoni and Malfatti go where many have gone before on the expansive, tinkling opener, "Tunnel,” and its like-minded brethren. Between standard trip-hop fare and flaky house numbers, there’s little evidence of individuality or experimentation. Invariably, what begins as a warm groove eventually dissipates, leaving the listener with the sonic equivalent of cold decaf.
