Die Hexe return with their brand of melodic hardcore on In Hell, I Dreamed of You. Die Hexe bring all of their hardcore sensibilities back on this record, but with darker metallic leanings than previous efforts. With all sorts of genre incorporations and melodic sleights-of-hand, In Hell, I Dreamed of You is the ideal leap forward in sonic progression.

For a release coming in over just 15 minutes, there are a ton of things to unpack. A signal in stylistic progression is noted right off the top with "Black Wings," an industrial Godflesh-like track with thick drums and disorienting vocal panning that really sets the table. The listener is then treated to a barrage of black metal blasts and frenetic guitar patterns on "Swarm" and "The Language of Snakes." A heavier emphasis on the metal elements of Die Hexe are really put forward.

Even with all of the changes on this record, what makes Die Hexe so potent and effective is their sense of melody. Throughout all of the chaos and heavy moments, they are balanced by melodic interludes and sections that tie the whole record together. In Hell, I Dreamed of You is an excellent late entry into the 2019 catalogue of heavy music that deserves your attention.
