Back in 2020, Devin Townsend shared that pandemic downtime had led to the creation of a new album called Lightwork, and the Canadian is now ready to let the effort shine.

Today, Townsend announced that Lightwork will arrive October 28 via InsideOut Music. The artist's latest was co-produced alongside fellow Canuck Gggarth Richardson, and follows last year's experimental pair of The Puzzle and Snuggles.

While a tracklist has yet to be revealed, the prolific Townsend also shared that Lightwork's limited-edition release versions will also include an additional companion album dubbed Nightwork. Further details on formats and pre-orders will follow in the coming months, while the album's cover art, seen above, comes courtesy of Travis Smith.

In 2020, Townsend described Lightwork as an "alien-sounding, effervescent, sunny load of oddness," and has since shared in a series of Twitter posts that it sounds like his 2012 album Epicloud "on steroids," "as close to 'heavy pop' as I think I'll ever get," and "like an '80s pop record in some ways… with some heavy guitars and a splash of weirdness."

To get a better idea of what the LP sounds like, you can hear a snippet of new music in a teaser for Townsend's upcoming 2023 European tour below, along with an early demo of the album's title track he had previously shared during a 2020 Twitch stream.
