Devin Townsend Looks to Fans to Assemble His "Universal Choir"

Devin Townsend has been talking up the follow-up to his 2007 conceptual LP Ziltoid the Omniscient for some time now, but it doesn't look as if the metal-minded experimenter can finish the upcoming Z2 without a little fan help. Townsend is currently looking to the faithful to submit their vocals for the project in order to become his "Universal Choir."

A press release explains that Townsend recently uploaded three tracks from the upcoming LP ("Z2," "Before We Die," and "Dimension Z") as background info to aspiring choir members. In addition to audio files from the recording sessions, Townsend has filmed a few instructional videos of himself singing the songs. Down below, you'll find a preview to the anthemic "Before We Die."

Townsend explained further in a statement:

I'm deep in the recording of this double album, and as part of the theme, Ziltoid the alien joins forces with the humans...and what better way to express that then to invite you all to sing along? The 'Universal Choir' is a platform in which vocal parts are explained, and then provides you a way to upload your singing contributions that we will edit together into one, big choir! The parts are a little tricky but perfection is not required, just enthusiasm. Feel free to overdub yourself, get a bunch of friends together, or just yell along, the bigger the better.

You can download the tracks and lyrics over here, where you can get more info on how to contribute to the project. The deadline for submissions is June 25.

Though the details have yet to arrive in full, Townsend expects Z2 to launch sometime this fall.
