BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Apr 6, 2016

Fans of Canadian metal maestro Devin Townsend have known an autobiography from the man himself has been in the works for almost two years. Now, concrete details surrounding the release of Only Half There have finally surfaced.

Arriving later this summer, the book will be available in two editions. A "Classic" edition will come with the book, previously unseen photos from Townsend's scrapbooks, and an acoustic EP titled Iceland.

A "Signature" version, meanwhile, will come signed by Townsend, wrapped in a different jacket, and packaged in a numbered, limited-edition box. Along with the scrapbook photos and Iceland EP, this edition will also include a signed cassette of unreleased demo recordings and four small prints of cartoons by Townsend.

"I thought writing a book was going to be easy. It wasn't," Townsend admitted in a statement. "Writing about growing up, music, the creative process and connection between personal development and 'career' made me think about a lot of other stuff, too. Like the positive and negative experiences of making different albums, and how each one affected me mentally, physically and emotionally. It's all here, though, from my childhood to working with Steve Vai, forming Strapping Young Lad and the Devin Townsend Project, to Casualties of Cool and finding myself only half there."

Only Half There will be published in August of this year, with pre-orders shipping in July. Further information and a sample of the music from the bonus CD can be heard here.

At present, Townsend revealed on Twitter that he is in the studio at work on a new Devin Townsend Project record, following up on 2014's Z2.
