Detox NOT Coming on 4/20, Dr. Dre Says

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 18, 2011

Without question, Dr. Dre's Detox is the Chinese Democracy of hip-hop. The album was first slated to be released in 2005, and since then, Dre has been leading us down a rabbit hole of empty promises and promotional vanity items like headphones and cognac without actually delivering the goods. A slate of recent Detox leaks has suggested the album is finally on its way, and now it's been given a supposed spring release date from the man himself.

The news comes via a TwitVid from producer Just Blaze, who is reminding fans to check out his production on Saigon's upcoming album The Greatest Story Never Told when it drops on February 15. The camera then pans over to Dre, who yells, "4/20 baby! 4/20! I'm coming!" Quick to echo our skepticism, Just Blaze responds "You might just see a unicorn this year too."

Dr. Dre is one of the most ideal people to release an album on the unofficial stoner holiday, but after checking our calendars we've noticed that April 20 falls on a Wednesday this year. That means that if Dre's supposed Detox release date is real, it will probably be hitting stores on April 19.

Either way, we now have video evidence from the man himself that we can expect Detox in April, which is reason for any Dre fans to have cautious excitement.

UPDATE: Surprise, surprise, a rep for Dre has told MTV that he was not referring to Detox when he made the 4/20 comment. So yep, still no release date. Thanks Dre.
