Destroyer

"El Rito"

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 7, 2013

Destroyer will release his Five Spanish Songs EP on December 2 via Merge, and now we've got a taste of songwriter Dan Bejar's Spanish language skills via the newly unveiled "El Rito."

The song isn't what you probably expected from this project, since it begins with crunchy, ultra-cheesy guitar riffs that sound like they were stolen from classic rock radio. Bejar's Spanish singing eventually takes over with an upbeat melody that makes this a hell of a lot of fun.

The songs were written by Antonio Luque of the band Sr. Chinarro. In case you were wondering, "El Rito" means "The Rite" (according to Google Translate).
