Published Apr 14, 2009Because people don't worship him enough for what he's done with Glass Candy and Chromatics the last few years, Johnny Jewel has gone and launched yet another project. Touring with Glass Candy, Johnny met a singer named Meagan Louise while he was in Montreal and was so impressed by her voice that he upped and relocated from Portland to Montreal to form what he's called Desire. Featuring Jewel on guitar and synth, Louise on vocals and synth, and Nat Walker on drums, Desire keeps Jewel's patented nocturnal soundtrack-style intact. However, Louise sings much less from a detached perspective than his other projects. Check out "Under Your Spell" (below) and its "Everybody Knows" vibe to get an idea.
They've already opened up for Glass Candy and given away a free five-track demo CD, which Gudren Wolf has been kind enough to post here. Jewel's label with Mike Simonetti, Italians Do It Better, has reportedly signed them, so you can bet they'll have some twelve-inches or a homemade CD on the way soon.
