Descend Into Nothingness

Darkened Reality

BY Laura TaylorPublished Dec 1, 2003

The debut of Quebec’s Descend Into Nothingness starts out as fairly straightforward (but solid) melodic death metal. While that seems to be the dominant force holding the album together, the band makes several forays into different territories for the sake of multi-dimensionality, experimenting with technical metal, rhythmic groove, wiggly guitar solos, acoustic passages, and the classical piano interlude. The mixture works out extremely well, and except for the squeals of a dying pig that occasionally try to pass for vocals (if you don’t believe me listen to "Martyred in the Rage of War”) Darkened Reality packs some knockout-grade power.
