Deliluh Announce New Album 'Beneath the Floors'

Hear the record's first single "Lickspittle: A Nut in the Paste"

Toronto art-punks Deliluh dropped their album Oath of Intent in May, and they've already announced a follow-up. Beneath the Floors is due on November 15 via Telephone Explosion and Tin Angel.

Though the second of the band's 2019 albums to arrive, Beneath the Floors was the first to be recorded and promises to maintain the band's balance between anthemic post-punk, soft-spoken balladry and eerie instrumentals. Both Beneath the Floors and Oath of Intent were recorded in Toronto legion hall Owls Club in 2018.

A press release states that the album "explores themes surrounding generational imbalance, self-affliction and inner-conflict in the face of mortality. A relay of changing protagonists are followed struggling through the underbellies of modern life, and their respective scenarios also range in the extremes."

When we spoke to frontman Kyle Knapp last year ahead of the band's performance in a Toronto subway station during Canadian Music Week, Knapp said of the album that would become Beneath the Floors, "[The Fall frontman] Mark E. Smith died the week we recorded the album and I remember us finding out in the middle of one of the sessions. It felt eerie. Smith has been an inspiration to me for years and the Fall heavily inspired the material we were tracking."

The Fall's influence can be heard on horn-flecked lead single "Lickspittle: A Nut in the Paste," which you can listen to below.

In addition to Beneath the Floor's digital release on November 15, the album will also be available through a limited vinyl pressing of 100.
