Delia Gonzalez Announces Multidisciplinary Album for DFA Records

Previously, DFA Records has released Delia Gonzalez's collaborative records with Gavin Russom plus their work with the performance group Black Leotard Front. Now, Gonzalez is going in a new direction with a multimedia solo album for DFA/[PIAS]. This is titled In Remembrance, and it will be out on April 28.

This project dates back to a 2010 solo show, and it was expanded during a few performances over the years. These featured Gonzalez soundtracking four 16mm ballet films with original music.

A press release notes that In Remembrance's four piano compositions "combine to create a 30-minute avant-classical suite." The vinyl set's second disc, meanwhile, consists of electronic remixes courtesy of Gonzalez's live collaborator Bryce Hackford. Some of these remixes are dance floor-oriented, while others are said to be "layered with gauzy left-field electronic pulses."

Physical copies of In Remembrance also come with a DVD. Gonzalez said in a statement, "The film is meant to recreate the fleeting sensation of inspiration — that sacred feeling when suddenly your mind clears and you know exactly what you're meant to create and become."

For a taste of this, watch a video for "IV" at the bottom of the page. It sets ballet footage to minimal, repeating piano figures.

The album can be ordered digitally, on CD (with the DVD), or on pink vinyl (also with the DVD) from DFA's online store.
