Exhumed main-man Matt Harvey is back with his ultra-kult band Dekapitator, who have been bringing their brand of retro thrash-cum-primitive black metal to the, um, listening minority for years. Now with their first release on a bigger metal label, the band should have metalheads drooling over this one. Theyre not trying to win anyone over with their technical playing or inventive songwriting, rather theyre just going for it, old school style. And sometimes thats the best way to go. But it doesnt sound like a cop-out or a trend; tunes like the hilariously named "The Storm Before the Calm and "Toxic Sanctuary (well, hilarious if you were born and bred on 80s thrash) prove the band are top-notch at their game, no matter how lo-fi and ugly the end result is. Gloriously dirty, Dekapitator are the perfect remedy for todays ultra-technical extreme metal climate.
