Deiphago

Satan Alpha Omega

BY Greg PrattPublished Aug 14, 2012

This third full-length from this Costa Rica-based band (who started off in the Philippines) follows up 2009's excellently titled Filipino Antichrist and manages to make things even rawer and more unholy. Firmly rooted in modern black metal, Deiphago take a raw black-thrash approach to their particular din, yet never apply anything particularly Teutonic to the mix, except for the attitude. Said attitude comes through loud and clear on this disc: which is, simply, fuck off. The production is so hostile that it sounds like the group don't want anyone entering this chasm of chaos. The songs are so relentless and fly in the face of traditional song structure to such a degree that it makes even most modern black metal look lightweight by comparison. Definitely one for those who like it raw, true and cult, Deiphago offer rewards for those who dare listen. Fave moment: when the blasting drumming suddenly goes even faster at the end of "Exalted Hate."
