Chicago’s Dehd have announced Poetry, their fifth studio album and the follow-up to 2022’s Blue Skies. It’s arriving May 10 on Fat Possum, and they’re previewing it with crunchy lead single “Mood Ring,” which comes attached to a music video directed by Glamhag.
“Mood Ring” is about “falling for a boy on a motorcycle,” and the band describe it as “the tone-setter for all that Poetry is set to deliver.” The record was written and partially recorded at bassist and vocalist Emily Kempf’s off-grid Earthship in Taos, NM, a borrowed cabin on the Puget Sound, and at their homebase Chicago warehouse.
Poetry was co-produced by Whitney’s Ziyad Asrar and Dehd’s Jason Balla at Palisade Studio. It’s the first time the trio has recorded with someone outside of the band.
Alongside the album announcement, the band has also shared their upcoming run of tour dates — they’ll be playing Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver in October and November.
