Deftones Announce 'Koi No Yokan' Album, Roll Out North American Dates

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 30, 2012

Earlier this summer, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno confirmed that the long-running atmospheric metal troupe had wrapped up recording sessions for an impending seventh studio LP, which would follow 2010's Diamond Eyes. Almost two months later, the band have dropped all the details on the platter, which is called Koi No Yokan.

A tracklisting has yet to be offered up, but a press release confirms that Deftones' latest LP arrives November 13 through Reprise Records. If you're wondering what that Japanese album title means, it roughly translates as that sense you get upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall into love.

As previously reported, the set was tracked with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters), who also worked with the band on Diamond Eyes. And like that last album, Moreno noted that the recording sessions wrapped up relatively quickly.

"It was important that we wanted to not drag it out," he had previously said. "We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record [Diamond Eyes], we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."

While the album won't hit retailers until November, chances are might good you can hear some of the new songs in the flesh on the band's upcoming North American tour. Following a few festival dates in September, the trip kicks off in California in October. Deftones will hit Canada just once, at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on October 14.
