Defiled Divination

Technical Japanese death metal is the order of the day here, with Defiled doing a great job of hopping from zigzagged riff to zigzagged riff amidst all the blast-beaten chaos swamping the proceedings. You may remember these guys from their last album, released on Necropolis Records, where every second song was hilariously (unintentionally so) called "Intro." Well, they've toned that down, although there is a full-on bass solo, followed up by a vocal solo (!) near the end of the release. Damned if the bassist doesn't deserve the spotlight though, as he steals the show here, cranked up in the mix, playing like a man possessed on what sounds like a fretless bass. (Season of Mist)
