Deerhoof Start Recording New Album

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 11, 2010

Despite being one of the most exciting bands currently going in indie rock, Deerhoof haven't let out a peep since 2008's Offend Maggie. Despite the odd festival date, progressive San Franciscans have remained relatively quiet. However, that soon may change, as they have announced that they're currently recording a new album.

Back in May, drummer Greg Saunier posted a MySpace blog announcing the new album. "We just started recording a new album yesterday," he wrote. "As usual nothing is usual. The only thing we know how to do is not know what to do. Sometimes I think the only thing we are becoming experts at is being beginners...Which can be kind of fun: if you always try to do something you don't know how to do, then you can have beginner's luck again and again."

More recently, Deerhoof's John Dieterich updated the blog. "We've started! Finally!" he wrote. "It's been a couple weeks since we've gotten together and begun recording material for the next Deerhoof album and, even though I'm exhausted and can't think straight, I can tell we're onto something special. We've got a few more weeks to try and get at least the basic ideas outlined. My small brain is threatening to lose grasp of what we've done so far, but we've got a lot more to do...Can't wait til we can share it."

While no release date has been announced for the new material, this has definitely piqued our interest. Hopefully, if we heckle loud enough, the band will decide to test some new songs out when they play Sled Island on July 1. All Deerhoof dates are available below.
