Deathray Davies

The Day Of The Ray

BY Scott IngramPublished May 1, 2002

Texas is associated with being big (i.e., Texas toast) and bad (i.e. "Texas kicks ass bumpers stickers”). Dallas, TX’s Deathray Davies are certainly big, with six members in the line-up for their third album, The Day of The Ray (though a recent tour saw them hit the road with five people). As for being bad, I don't know if they'll kick your ass, but they might make you shake it. They really get a good thing going on in songs like the lead track "Is This On?," where the they lock into a choppy guitar, pounding drum thing played over a party rocking keyboard groove. Like the spices that really bring together a good Texas chilli, the warm keyboard tones are the secret ingredient making this a good Texan indie rock band.
