Death Treat 'Spiritual Healing' to Deluxe Vinyl Reissue

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 21, 2014

Following this year's revamped version of Death's Leprosy, the Florida death metal outfit's back catalogue will be treated to another deluxe reissue. This time, Relapse Records is about to issue a tweaked-up edition of the group's 1990 effort, Spiritual Healing.

The label has confirmed that it will have a fully remastered vinyl version of Death's third full-length out in North America on September 30, with the European/UK release date being a day earlier and the German pressing due to land September 26. A deluxe double-LP box set arrives in a run of 500 copies, with the first platter containing the album proper and the second slab of wax containing nine period-specific demos. Also included in the box are an exclusive band pin, a felt turntable slipmat, a poster featuring album artwork, and a digital download of the material as found on a previously released CD re-release from 2012.

There's also a standard, single-LP edition of the vinyl re-release featuring just the remastered Spiritual Healing, which comes in a number of coloured vinyl variants that are detailed here, as well as a picture disc release.

You can see a trailer for the reissue below and pre-order the record here.

Issued in 1990, Spiritual Healing is described in a press release as having brought in "a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band." The album is said to feature "insane time changes" and leader Chuck Schuldiner's "masterful guitar solos." The guitarist passed away in 2001 after a battle with cancer.

As previously reported, a rotating cast of Death members are currently performing as Death to All and will be touring this fall alongside Obituary alongside Massacre and Rivers of Nihil. The trip hits Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.
