Death From Above 1979 reunited earlier this year, performing at SXSW and scheduling an appearance at Coachella in April, along with a pair of UK gigs in May. As happy as we were to see the Toronto, ON-based fuzz-punk duo back together, we were surprised that they hadn't booked a gig here in Canada. Well, that's now changed, since we've just learned that they will be appearing at Montreal's Osheaga festival in July.
Yesterday (March 30), Osheaga festival organizers tweeted, "Ok enough with our silence! It's true! DFA1979 and EELS will be playing @Osheaga ! Much more to come real soon! :-)" We'd like to second that smiley face.
The full festival lineup has yet to be announced, and it hasn't been confirmed which day Death From Above 1979 will be playing. But the festival proper takes place on July 30 to 31 at Parc Jean-Drapeau, while the Osheaga in the City concert series will go down in venues around Montreal from July 27 to 30.
When DFA1979 make their long-awaited Canadian return, let's hope that it goes more smoothly than the SXSW show, which resulted in a riot.
