Deaf Wish

"St. Vincent's"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 20, 2014

While Australia's Deaf Wish haven't issued a proper LP since 2011's Mercy, the Melbourne-based crew return with a noise rock-spiked single this fall through Sub Pop. Ahead of its October 3 due date, you can check out the art-damaged opener, "St. Vincent's."

The track quickly builds up from some open-chord ambiance into '90s-leaning alt-rock aggressions, with "Kool Thing"-styled moans crashing against Sonic Youth guitar screeches and raucous beats. The band do a good job of keeping things together despite the chaos, perhaps owing to the influence of the tune's titular character ("St. Vincent's done a real good job of fixing me up").

You can check out the track down below, as well as Deaf Wish's newly unveiled North American tour schedule.
