Stroking the Moon

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jan 1, 2006

Already something of a phenomenon in their native San Francisco, this Bay Area trio is poised to set the world on its ear with their fusion of funked-up, punked-out progressive classical rock. And I do mean classical. The string section of the band consists of a violin and cello in place of traditional guitar and bass. Imagine wizard's Roy Wood and Yo-Yo Ma jamming with NoMeansNo and you begin to get the idea. But more than just a novelty act like say, Apocalyptica, these guys actually pump out heavy original songs with added oomph of clever arrangements and whacked-out lyrics. Hailing from the same general vicinity as Primus and the Victim's Family has obviously had an impact on them.
