Deadmau5 Lashes Out over <i>4x4=12</i>'s False Advertising

When Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) first announced his new record, 4x4=12, back in October, a press release called it "his first full-length artist album" -- a strange description, given that it was yet another in a long line of mixes and compilations from the Canadian DJ. Now, less than a week after the album's December 7 release, Deadmau5 has lashed out against the way the record has been marketed by his label.

"It's another compilation. It's along the lines of Random Album Title and For Lack of a Better Name," Zimmerman recently told the Daily Record. "It's more of a culmination of shit I got done this year in between touring."

He was so offended by the way that 4x4=12 was marketed by label Ultra Records that he said that anyone who sold it as an official LP "needs to be shot."

Despite his criticisms, Deadmau5 still stands behind the collection (or at least some of it). He added, "I'm not knocking the album at all. It's a good compilation of the tracks I've been doing for the show. I'm not against any of it, I like some of it." A banner currently up on his official site calls it a "brand new mix album."

And don't expect Deadmau5 to take the time to record a proper "artist album" any time soon. He will be spending the rest of this month on the road, and will round out the year with a Toronto show, plus two nights in Edmonton.
