Not to be deterred by Arcade Fire's scorn, rodent-headed EDM star deadmau5 has announced that he has a new album on the way. The curiously titled while(1<2) will arrive digitally on June 17, with physical copies to follow on June 24 through mau5trap/Astralwerks.
While the full details of the album have yet to be confirmed, a press release notes that it will contain 25 tracks, making this the beatmaker's first double album. He apparently considers it his first proper body of work.
The producer born Joel Zimmerman had this to say in a statement:
It's a good mix of shit I want to do versus shit people want to hear or what they would expect. It's a good balance. It's not like, "Oh, it's such a departure. He's doing smooth jazz." It was when I was working on some live stuff, setlists for shows and stuff like that, and it just must have been a couple of tracks that sounded pretty good stitched together end to start and I thought, "Well, if I ever do an album or compile this into some kind of album this has got to be that part of the order for that." And I just kind of took everything and played musical Tetris with it.
Below, hear a 30-second preview of the track "Avaritia," which starts with widescreen synths before shifting into a dance beat before the snippet fades out.
The song will premiere in full this Friday (May 16) on BBC Radio 1. Also this week, the producer's online service, live.deadmau5.com, will get an iOS app on May 15.
