Before they fell prey to a tragic onstage meltdown last week, Women were planning a European tour and split twelve-inch with Toronto-based noise punks DD/MM/YYYY. Now that Women have cancelled all their shows, DD/MM/YYYY have revealed that they will continue on with the tour minus the Calgary art rockers and release a split twelve-inch with a different band.
DD/MM/YYYY's Moshe Rozenberg said in a statement, "On a very personal level, DD/MM/YYYY are crushed that Women had to drop off of our European tour and withdraw from our upcoming spilt twelve-inch, but above all we hate the thought of our friends clashing... That being said, we are still touring in Europe for six weeks, we are still releasing a split twelve-inch on Altin Village, and we are still excited about future collaborate efforts with our four favourite Women."
Along with the release on Altin Village, DD/MM/YYYY will put out another split with Beak>, the UK band helmed by Portishead's Geoff Barrow.
According to a press release, the members of DD/MM/YYYY have spent the last few days in Bristol recording with Barrow for the split release. Barrow also reissued DD/MM/YYYY's break-through album Black Square on his Invada Records imprint, which will also issue the split.
Fellow DD/MM/YYYY member Tomas Del Balso recently left the following comment on Exclaim!'s article regarding the Women debacle:
Women are great. This is Tomas from DDMMYYYY and we toured with them in the eastern USA recently and they were all charming amazing guys. Something like this is pretty hard on us because we were supposed to do their europe tour with them. Now we go alone and really miss them boy WOMEN. Hopefully they know we still love them as people even if they left us out here in Europe on our own. WOMEN played the best devo cover of BLOCKHEAD I HAVE EVER HEARD!
