Daydream Vacation Dare Seize the Fire

Daydream Vacation Dare Seize the Fire
Hey, remember Smoosh? Well, they're back, in electro form! Featuring Head Like a Kite's Dave Einmo, with former Smoosh keyboardist/vocalist/sister Asya, Daydream Vacation move forward from both musicians' indie-lite roots, creating a sound more groove-based and dynamic. But on their debut LP, Dare Seize the Fire, Daydream Vacation produce "electronic music" the same way Metric do. As the over-the-moon energy of "Feeling That I'm Floating" and the late night funk of "Clever's Not My Best Excuse" work exclusively off forward-moving synth and bass, Daydream Vacation's songs are structured closer to alt-rock or indie. The Seattle, WA duo's greatest strength on Dare Seize the Fire remains their ability to channel colossal, cheeky energy on songs like "That Girl Don't Sleep" and "Kitchy Koo," which might have more to do with the fact that Asya is just a single year removed from her teens. A hundred bands are doing what Daydream Vacation are doing right now and even the best of those find it difficult to say something new, or even different. (Independent)
