Davie Allan and The Arrows

The Arrow Dynamic Sounds Of…

BY Craig DanielsPublished Dec 1, 1999

The father of fuzz forges further into the forests of finger-frying Fender-fuelled fury, and fortunately for us it’s freakin’ fun. The Arrow Dynamic Sounds Of… starts off with a re-recorded version of Allan’s signature song, “Blues Theme,” mixed into a medley with the also classic “Born Losers Theme.” Not a bad move, seeing as Allan just only recently won his royalty rights to “Blues Theme” and would naturally want to get that track circulating again. There just isn’t a bad number on this record, but if one had to pick some highlights, the gutty “Fast And Loose,” the desert trip of “Peyote,” the classy medley of “The James Bond Theme/Goldfinger” and the mysterious freak-out of “The Unknown” would all be right up there. This album combines great production, excellent songwriting and wild, flawless guitar playing to create an instrumental album that is both timeless and hard rocking at the same time.
