David Gilmour Details 'Rattle That Lock,' Announces North American Dates

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 16, 2015

After first coughing up a few details about Rattle That Lock at a writer's workshop in Ireland, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has now laid out all the details behind his forthcoming solo LP.

As previously reported, the record comes a year after the release of Pink Floyd's supposed final LP, The Endless River, and marks Gilmour's first solo set since 2006's On an Island. A press release now confirms that this latest offering lands September 18 via Sony Music.

We'd previously learned that Gilmour's wife Polly Samson was contributing lyrics to the project, and a press release now adds that she's the principal lyricist on Rattle That Lock. The set was co-produced by Gilmour and former Roxy Music member Phil Manzanera.

The standard CD, LP and digital editions house 10 new tunes from Gilmour. While previews have yet to go live, the title track will be premiered tomorrow (July 17) by BBC 2.

Deluxe editions also arrive on CD + DVD and CD + Blu-ray, with the bonus disc containing documentary footage and a series of "barn jams" filmed in 2007. These have Gilmour playing a selection of tunes with keyboardist Richard Wright, bassist Guy Pratt, and drummer Steve DiStanislao. The bonus disc also features alternate versions and remixes of tunes from Rattle That Lock.

Gilmour has also revealed plans to tour behind his new solo LP, with a quick fall trip around Europe to be followed up by some North American dates next spring simply called "Live 2016." This includes a stop at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on March 31.
