Published Jan 24, 2011The excerpts of David Byrne and Brian Eno's Everything That Happens Will Happen Today were arguably the only good aspect of Oliver Stone's dreadful Wall Street sequel last year. With that in mind, we would love to hear Byrne collaborate with someone on the soundtrack for a potentially good film. Thankfully, our dreams are coming true, as Byrne is reportedly working with Will Oldham on songs for his previously mentioned score for Paolo Sorrentino's Sean Penn vehicle This Must Be the Place.
In an interview with Time Out [via The Playlist], Byrne revealed the collaboration, saying, "I'm working with Will Oldham on songs for a film by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino [Il Divo] called This Must Be the Place, which of course is a Talking Heads song."
Along with the soundtrack work, Byrne will appear in the film. "I'm playing one of my own songs," he explained. "Sorrentino came to me and wanted me to be in it. I originally said I had no ambitions in that area. I did it years ago, just the tiniest little bit, and I realized there are people who are really good at this who love it."
In addition to Penn, who will be playing a Robert Smith-looking pop star, This Must Be the Place also includes Frances MacDormand, Harry Dean Stanton, Kerry Condon, Judd Hirsch and Eve Hewson, daughter of U2 frontman Bono. Production on the film is complete but there is no solid release date just yet.
