David Bowie's 'Blackstar' Honoured in New Instagram Series

The music world is still reeling from the loss of David Bowie, as demonstrated by the well-meaning tributes that continue to pour in from stars like Lady Gaga and the Foo Fighters. Adding to the ever-growing list of posthumous praise, a new Instagram series titled UNBOUND: A ★ InstaMiniSeries will debut later this week.
 
Described as "an interpretation of and inspired by" Bowie's final album ★, the 16-part series was given pre-release access to the record last fall. According to a press release, the project aims to take the audience "on a journey of evocative images inspired by the moods suggested in the album's music, lyrics and artwork," opting for an emphasis on visual interpretation rather than a linear narrative.

The innovative series was produced by Nikki Borges, Carolynn Cecilia and Lawrence Peryer. Borges also directed the series, while Cecilia wrote the script. Rookie magazine creator Tavi Gevinson stars as the protagonist, and actress Patricia Clarkson is credited in the role of a lounge singer.
 
The first installment airs this Thursday (February 25) at 8 p.m. EST, with new episodes to follow each subsequent Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Each episode will be available via the project's official Instagram page.
