It's a big day for David Bowie, as he's celebrating his 69th birthday. It's a big day for all of us, though, as he also just let loose his new, mind-bending studio full-length, Blackstar. Following a few conceptual video previews, the album has hit retailers and streaming services, and can be heard in full now.
Bowie had previously teased the set with out-there videos for "Lazarus" and "★," but if you read Exclaim!'s track-by-track preview, you know there's plenty more in store for listeners this time around.
Following the title track, there's the brassy, breakbeat jazz of "'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore," which sounds something like a mix of Bowie's "Heroes" and Earthling periods. Elsewhere, you've got the airy, drum-shuffling experimentalism of "Girl Loves Me," the tranquil groove and shred fest of closing piece "I Can't Give Everything Away," and more.
You'll find a stream of Blackstar below. Exclaim!'s full review of the LP can be found here.
