Dave Grohl is primed to further solidify his rock legend status with every true short story he publishes on Instagram, and the Foo Fighters leader's latest centres on the thrill of being asked to jam with another musical icon: Prince.

In his latest post, Grohl reflected on the time he was invited to join Prince and his band for soundcheck during the Purple One's 21-show residency at the Los Angeles Forum in 2011.

"It was a proposition that I had wished for my entire adult life, but never in my wildest dreams had imagined possible," Grohl wrote. "Jam. With. Prince. Absolutely unfathomable. That's like dancing with Fred Astaire! Baking with Betty Crocker! Bong hits with Bob Marley!"

Grohl then goes into detail about counting down the days until the jam session, also working in smaller anecdotes about the first time he saw Prince live, how he shut down the Foo Fighters' release of a "Darling Nikki" cover, and how he felt about Prince working the Foos' "Best of You" into his Superbowl Halftime medley.

When it came to the actual jam session, Prince lauded Grohl's "heavy foot" on a first jam before indulging him with a playthrough of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love."

"Let me tell you, folks....I don't have arms full of Zeppelin tattoos for nothing," he wrote. "This was the universe folding into itself right before my eyes!!! Prince was gleefully tearing open my rib cage and diving into my motherfucking soul, y'all!"

You can read Grohl's latest true story below. He and his Foo Fighters bandmates recently rescheduled their "Van Tour."
