Datarock Datarock Datarock
Norwegian duo Datarock have taken the post-punk, gay disco sound to new heights with their self-titled debut. Originally released on their independent imprint, Young Aspiring Professionals, the record has been picked up by BC-based Nettwerk for North American distribution and the band will be touring the U.S. and Canada in June 2007. Despite being two years old, the record is very much in line with new music by bands like the New Young Pony Club, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. Datarock, however, have infused their geek chic dance sound with an undeniable hardcore influence. "Bulldozer,” the intense two-minute-long opening track, blasts in like a punk rocker on their first hit of ecstasy screaming "BMX! Better than sex!” "Computer Camp Love” is the hilarious story of falling for a girl named Judy while learning to program your Commodore 64, while "Fa Fa Fa” is a song that could be confused for a funky, energetic Talking Heads number circa 1977. Datarock have made some brilliant music that has managed to blur the lines between the rave and rock crowds. (Nettwerk)
