The Darling DeMaes

Friday's gig at the Silver Dollar Room was a coming out gig of sorts for Montreal's Darling DeMaes. After toiling away in their local scene for a number of years, the quintet announced themselves to Toronto and the rest of the country with a sprightly set of tunes from their debut album. Lead singer Erik Virtanen, augmented by Tasha Cyr, led the band through numerous time signature changes with their hushed whisper singing. While all five members worked a high degree of musicianship into the succinct indie rock tunes, drummer Sami Kizilbash was a standout, holding together the group's ambitious songs.
