Dark Suns

Grave Human Genuine

Grave Human Genuine (Dark Suns’ third album and first North American release) is a wide-ranging enterprise of dark progressive metal. Pain of Salvation references abound, from sonic similarities to Dark Suns’ tour history or the presence of former PoS bassist Kristoffer Gildenlöw, but the music isn’t always so easy to pin down. Dark Suns could easily sit alongside a number of prog, atmospheric or avant-garde artists as distinct as Dead Soul Tribe, Antimatter and Ulver, and often draw upon several different muses within a single song. A heavy track like "Flies in Amber” moves with a powerful groove, a vicious growl (courtesy of Disillusion’s Schmidt) and haunting flute. At other times, the band go for an eerie and electronic/metal meld ("Amphibian Halo”) or a more organic acoustic or hard rock vibe. It’s not the easiest combination to settle into but that’s just the point. Grave Human Genuine resists fading into the background.
