Danny Brown Ropes in A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Purity Ring for 'Old'

Detroit rapper Danny Brown has been hinting at a follow-up to last year's acclaimed XXX mixtape for a little while, and he has now revealed that the LP will be titled Old.

Pitchfork reports that the record is "75 percent done," with tracks now in the mixing stages. "As the actor in this movie, I'm wrapped," Brown said.

While the original edition of XXX was issued for free, Old will enter the marketplace at retailers and will be released through Fool's Gold.

Details on the tracklisting have yet to appear, but guest artists will apparently include A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Kitty Pryde, amongst others. Purity Ring will appear on the LP on the production side of things, but vocalist Megan James will also be offering up a vocal hook on an as-yet-unnamed track.

Other producers for Old include KYWLKR and Paul White, Darq E Freaker and Oh No, and Glaswegian electro guy Rustie, whom Brown credits for helping him complete the set. Apparently, Rustie's participation came on a whim.

"I was kind of stuck, and through a stroke of god, he emailed me and said, 'Yo, I want to submit you some tracks for the album,'" Brown explained. "I thought I was done, but I knew I needed a little more flair. He sent me seven beats, and I ended up using three of them."

While a Noisey mini-doc showed Brown in a London studio with TNGHT, it doesn't look as if the duo will figure on Old.

Brown said, "They never sent me no beats! I was in the studio listening to beats [with them], they said they were going to send me some beats, but they didn't. I don't know what's going on. [Laughs] It's okay, though — Rustie did good."
