D'Angelo To Make His Return

BY Cam LindsayPublished Jun 23, 2008

One-time R&B sensation and totally buff dude (yeah, you still remember the vid for "How Does It Feel," I know you do) D'Angelo is planning to make his return after an eight-year absence.

The eight years in question have seen D'Angelo (born Michael Archer) fall off the pedestal he was on after 2000's brilliant, Grammy-winning album, Voodoo. In 2005 he was arrested for for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and DUI, though was left off with a suspended sentence. Months later, the singer/producer was critically injured when he drove his SUV into a fence, which ejected him from the vehicle.

But apparently he's on the comeback trail, and prepping a third album for new label J Records, having been released by original label Virgin in 2005. The yet-to-be-titled album features collaborations with Raphael Saadiq, while Billboard reports that John Mayer is set to join him in the studio.

Though a release date is still very much up in the air, tomorrow (June 24) will see former label Virgin attempt a cash-grab with the release of The Best So Far..., a CD/DVD retrospective that features all the hits, some rarities and previously unreleased videos.

D'Angelo's most recent appearance was on Common's "So Far to Go," taken from last year's Finding Forever album.
