Dan Mangan and Alexisonfire Come Out on Top at Verge Music Awards

Last night (September 22), satellite radio's the Verge XM 87 hosted the second annual Verge Music Awards at the Mod Club in Toronto, where this year's winners were announced.

Vancouver, BC singer-songwriter Dan Mangan took home the prize for Artist of the Year, beating out fellow nominees Alexisonfire, Amos the Transparent, Joel Plaskett and Said the Whale. Meanwhile, Alexisonfire won the award for Album of the Year for Old Crows/Young Cardinals. Also nominated were recent albums by Arkells, Joel Plaskett, Metric and Mother Mother.

Each award comes with a $25,000 prize. The nominees were chosen by an online vote, with last night's winners being strictly chosen by fans.

The evening also included live performances by Metric, Hey Rosetta! and the Weakerthans, with all of the festivities broadcast live on the Verge XM 87.
