I can’t express the extent to which I get a kick out of Dan Deacon. Last year’s Spiderman of the Rings was beautifully cockeyed and without a question the giddiest record I’d heard in ages — a masterpiece for the kid that just wants to dance like there aren’t any consequences. Throw in one of the rowdiest live shows imaginable — with a bright glowing skull and encouraged audience participation in the form of dance-offs and sing-alongs — that hit every nook and cranny in the free world (he’s a machine) and that mixed media extravaganza starring none other than Ahnold the Governator, and this dude’s got multi-tasking down to a science. While Wham City’s finest may have had quite a 2007, there is a major backlog of his frenzied rainbow-fizzled glitch pop that didn’t quite get the same (read: any) attention. Knowing full well that virtually no one has heard, say, the entire 40 minutes and 56 seconds of his epic drone-a-thon "A Green Cobra Is Awesome Vs. The Sun” or the acidic nursery rhyme that is "Hey Let’s Go For A Ride,” Dan has uploaded his entire back catalogue to download for free. This generous offering includes: Silly Hat vs. Egale Hat, Meetle Mice, Goose On the Loose, "A Green Cobra Is Awesome Vs. The Sun,” Porky Pig EP and Acorn Master — all of which can be found here. For rizzle and for free. Try on the bespectacled one’s timeless bath time classic, "Splish Splash,” where he pitch-shifts his screwball vocals into cartoon folly. It’s the rave-up every kid needs during a sugar high. Somebody please get this guy his own animated series.
