It has been revealed that Gorillaz and Blur mastermind Damon Albarn is a leading candidate to be the artistic director for the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics, which are taking place in London, Albarn's place of birth.
According to the Independent, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has already been in talks with Albarn about the position. By no means is anything official though, as a LOCOG spokeswoman explains: "It is complete speculation and we are still months away from making appointments."
Albarn is, as we know, no stranger to the Olympics. In 2008, he worked with Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett to develop a title sequence and theme song for the Beijing Olympics.
