Vancouver punk legends D.O.A. have continued to deliver new material for decades. Meanwhile, the band's frontman Joey "Shithead" Keithley has maintained a career as a politician and activist in British Columbia. His unique life and work will now be the subject of a new documentary.
Named after D.O.A.'s debut album, the new film Something Better Change will follow Keithley's path towards becoming a Burnaby city councillor after entering politics in 2018 while tracing the connections between music and political activism. Ideally, the film will arrive before he seeks re-election in 2022.
Henry Rollins, Keith Morris, Jello Biafra, Krist Novoselic, Duff McKagan and Beto O'Rourke will all appear in the film.
"If you really believe in something, you got to fight for it and you cannot just talk about it," O'Rourke told Rolling Stone. "Joe Keithley running for office; I mean, this is one of the hardest things you can do."
Something Better Change is being directed by Scott Crawford, who previously helmed the Washington, D.C., punk doc Salad Days. A Kickstarter to complete the film is now live, and you can watch its first trailer below.
