While Cult Leader's upcoming Useless Animals 7-inch will feature the first new material from the Salt Lake City crushers since their debut EP, Nothing for Us Here, the release is also notable for featuring a cover of Mark Kozelek and Desertshore's "You Are Not My Blood." A solemn-sounding stream of the redo has now been unveiled ahead of the record's June 16 street date through Deathwish Inc.
Perhaps for the best, Cult Leader have shied away from tormented and tangled metalcore sounds to keep the cover fairly traditional. The update definitely has a sad bastard, slowcore feel that aligns with the Kozelek original, but there's a little extra distortion hovering in the track's already ominous cloud cover.
You can sample the kin-questioning gloom tune down below, where you'll also find a few upcoming Cult Leader concert dates.
Tour dates:
05/19 Boise, ID - The Shredder
05/20 Portland, OR - High Water Mark
05/21 Vancouver, BC - Red Gate Art Society
05/23 Seattle, WA - Rain Fest
05/26 Anchorage, AK - Kincaid Bunker
05/29 Anchorage, AK - Anchorage Community Works
05/30 Anchorage, AK - Chilkoot's Charlie's
