Crystal Method

Legion of Boom

BY Andy LeePublished Feb 1, 2004

Legion of Boom begins innocuously enough, with a sly synth riff that bursts into an U.N.K.L.E.-themed break beat. It’s followed by "Born Too Slow,” presumably the Crystal Method’s attempt to repeat the success of "Busy Child.” Overall, the album abounds with formulaic break beats, boring samples and hipster-friendly arrangements. "American Way” features a dubious appearance by Rahzel, while "I Know It’s You” tests the durability of TCM’s "loop” button. Somewhere, a Doritos commercial is missing its soundtrack.
