Cryptopsy Unveil 'The Book of Suffering' EP Series

Long-running technical death metal icons Cryptopsy have revealed plans to issue a series of EPs for the faithful that will be delivered under the collective title of The Book of Suffering. Work on "Tome One" is already underway, with the Quebec-based outfit planning to issue the independent release via the help of a Indiegogo crowdsourcing project.

The band officially mounted their fundraising campaign earlier today (May 8), with drummer Flo Mounier and guitarist Chris Donaldson issuing a quick video primer on how the series will work. They're gearing up to record at Donaldson's the Grid facility in Montreal and will deliver four new songs on the first instalment of The Book of Suffering. It's expected to land as both a CD and a 7-inch, as well as digitally.

Cryptopsy will be offering fans videos, T-shirts, cymbals, guitar strings and other pieces of merchandise as incentives to back the project. They're also offering music lessons over Skype, while also offering to play on your band's recording and let you in on their own mixing sessions. You'll find out more info over here.

All together, Crytopsy are hoping to raise $20,000 US to bring The Book of Suffering to fruition.

As for the upcoming material, the band issued the following statement: "We hope that every extreme metal fan will be exposed to The Book of Suffering Tome 1. We are extremely proud of the material; it is some of the most brutal, technical and fresh music we have ever created."

While release dates have yet to be locked down, The Book of Suffering will be the first material to come from the outfit since their 2012 self-titled set, which was released independently.

Crytopsy may well be playing some of their new song on an upcoming U.S. tour. The dates start up later in the month, with the full show schedule available to be seen over here.
