Cream

Classic Albums: Disraeli Gears

BY Allan TongPublished Apr 1, 2006

Classic Albums delivers another impressive DVD with this detailed exploration of Cream’s 1967 heavy rock masterpiece. Fortunately, all the principals are still with us: Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton, as well as lyricist Pete Brown and cover artist Martin Sharp. Together they reveal the stories behind each song, sometimes with guitar in hand. Outsiders such as rock critic David Fricke and Atlantic Records chief Ahmet Ertegun provide the historical context without degenerating into hagiography. The 50-minute program is supplemented by a good 30 minutes of extras, which are a healthy mix of recent interview clips and vintage concert footage. Play loud. (Eagle Rock)
