Craig Finn Begins Recording Solo Album, Sets Sights on New Hold Steady LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 11, 2011

Though it's only been a year since the Hold Steady unleashed their last album, Heaven Is Whenever, frontman Craig Finn is obviously getting a little antsy. Hoping to get his creative juices flowing, the verbose wordsmith is in the preliminary stages of not one, but two upcoming albums.

First up is a solo set. As Pitchfork points out, the singer has revealed that he's taking a break from his full-time gig to record a handful of songs on his own.

"I'm in Austin TX for a few weeks," Finn posted last week on his new Tumblr account Do What You Feel. "Making a record. Staying in a friend's guest house. Got here yesterday. So far so good."

A post from earlier today (July 11) explains he's making the record with friend Mike McCarthy. Though a tracklisting has yet to be unveiled, you can get a taste of Finn's mellower solo material below via the newish "One Single Saviour."

Even more exciting about today's post is that Finn confirmed that he will be getting back together with the Hold Steady boys pronto, stating that they will be writing album No. 6 this September. Regrettably, it's too early to tell at this point when either album will drop. In the meantime, you can also check out the band on some upcoming tour dates.
