Cowpuncher

'Ghost Notes' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 15, 2013

Calgary outfit Cowpuncher have typically been known as a country and roots band, but they've embraced rock'n'roll with their latest album. Ghost Notes is out on November 22, and it's available to stream ahead of time at Exclaim.ca.

The album was recorded with Robbie Josh Gwilliam in his mobile recording truck, with sessions spanning several months. It features Cowpuncher's core five-piece lineup, with frontman Matt Olah getting his bandmates involved in the writing process this time around.

"The band went in its own direction and shed off this Calgary country Stampede thing — although there are still elements of that," Olah said in a statement. "We just started writing songs with a different approach."

The mud-caked cover art is a tribute to the volunteers who helped clean up after this year's Calgary floods.

Hear the album below, where you'll also find the first video in support of the record for the track "Bridesmaids."
