Cousins Detail 'The Halls of Wickwire' LP, Premiere New Track

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 18, 2014

Delayed from its original plan for a 2013 release, hard-working Halifax act Cousins have finally confirmed the details for their upcoming third full-length The Halls of Wickwire.

The duo of Aaron Mangle and Leigh Dotey have toured relentlessly, continued to let loose new material and, in the process, refined their sound. On the new album, a press release notes that "they sound refreshed and unencumbered by the weight of the region, or their own history."

The PR also adds this of The Halls of Wickwire:

This record will change your life if you let it. A heartbreaker and a healer, it looks an awful world dead in the eye, fills the lungs up with all that pain and worry, and then comes back breathing a beautiful fire. This is the fine art of defence and hope. A ramshackle monument built over a steady spring of melancholy. Electricity and blood in the lines. Guitar and drums. A musical avalanche set apart from the macho and debaucherous posturing and fictions of rock culture.

The Halls of Wickwire was produced by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, METZ) and will be released on May 13 via Hand Drawn Dracula/Ba Da Bing Records.

For now, album track "Mess" can be streamed below in all its mid-tempo, muddy glory.
