Cool Declare Themselves 'Best New Music' on New EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 20, 2014

As far as we know, Cool have never been reviewed by a certain three-pronged publication, but that isn't stopping the funk-flavoured Apollo Ghosts spinoff from declaring themselves Best New Music on a new EP.

The four-song collection was released today (May 20) without warning on the Vancouver trio's Bandcamp page. It's only available digitally and can be acquired as a free download (although Cool specify that a "$5 donation would be appreciated").

The EP was made this spring at JC/DC, the celebrated Vancouver studio run by John Collins and Dave Carswell (Destroyer, the New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara). This follows just two months behind the debut album Paint, and its sound emphasizes the band's energetically atmospheric post-punk inclinations (rather than their funky side).

The tracklist is below; note that it includes a song called "Best New Track." The entire thing can be streamed or downloaded at the bottom of the page, while the cover artwork is above.

As previously reported, Cool will be taking part in Vancouver's upcoming Music Waste festival, which takes place from June 5 to 8.
