Montreal's Constellation Records has collected extended and previously unreleased tracks from its artists for a new singles series.
The label's "Corona Borealis Longplay Singles Series" will feature tracks commissioned from the following 16 label-affiliated artists (in current order of release): Markus Floats, Efrim Manuel Menuck, Jessica Moss, Jason Sharp, T. Gowdy, Fly Pan Am, JOYFULTALK, Joni Void & N NAO, T. Griffin, Eric Chenaux, Deadbeat & Martin Bakero, Automatisme, Light Conductor, Off World, Sam Shalabi and Jerusalem in My Heart.
Each track will be PWYC (no minimum) for the first 48 hours of release and will arrive accompanied by an experimental video. Artists involved with the series receive an honorarium along with 100 percent of all Bandcamp revenue over the lifetime of the singles, while their respective digital discographies will also be specially priced on Bandcamp during the week their single releases.
Following the arrival of his Third Album through the label earlier this year, Markus Floats is first up with "Karl Marx. Capital Volume 1. Chapter 33: The Modern Theory of Colonisation [Abridged]," with an accompanying lyric video created by Fiver's Simone Schmidt.
"In my live performances I use pre-recorded texts in lieu of lyrics," Markus Floats said of his literally-titled contribution. "My objective in using these texts is to spark an interest in the listener. I want you to have questions about what you've heard and I want you to seek out more information. At the very least, I want some of those words to find their way into your subconscious to resurface years from now as a random thought on a lazy morning. All this to say, I hope this song makes you want to read Marx."
